Il 2 marzo 2023 Helvetiarockt ha lanciato il primo episodio della terza stagione della serie di podcast «Musicians in conversation». La nuova stagione contiene, oltre alle interviste a musiciste-x, anche le «backstage editions» che permettono di scoprire le professioni quali tecnica-x del suono o booker. Un giovedì su due sarà presentato un nuovo episodio. 

La seri di podcast «Musicians in Conversation» di Helvetiarockt punta i riflettori sulle donne e sulle persone inter*, trans o non binarie attive a livello professionale nel mondo della musica in veste di musiciste-x, DJ o artiste-x. Nella terza stagione prenderanno la parola, oltre alle musiciste-x Evita Koné, anche professioniste-x dell’industria musicale svizzera attive dietro le quinte, quali Lena Brechbühl, tecnica del suono dal vivo, Nadia Mitic, agente di booking e cofondatrice di Glad We Met Collectives e Fabienne Schmuki, co-direttrice, responsabile della promozione e manager dell’etichetta Irascible. Il podcast è moderato da Natalia Anderson, musicista, DJ e giornalista londinese che vive a Ginevra. Le donne e le persone inter*, trans e non binarie continuano a essere fortemente sottorappresentate nel settore della musica svizzero. Solo l’11 per cento circa delle donne-x si esibisce sul palco e nel settore della produzione musicale tale percentuale si riduce al 2 per cento1. Il podcast di Helvetiarockt vuole fungere da portavoce di questo gruppo di persone e permettere alle ascoltatrici- x di gettare uno sguardo dietro le quinte. Dalle discussioni con gli ospiti del podcast emerge la ricca varietà di attività professionali nel settore della musica e le diverse vie che possono condurre ad esempio alla professione di musicista-x, booker o manager di tour. 

La prima stagione di «Musicians in Conversation» è stata lanciata nel 2020 con l’obiettivo di presentare i coach dei workshop Music Lab di Helvetiarockt e quindi di abbassare la soglia d’inibizione per le persone interessate a parteciparvi. È presto emerso che, in generale, il podcast offre un importante contributo alla messa in rete e alla visibilità delle donne e delle persone inter*, trans e non binarie attive nel mondo della musica svizzero. La seconda stagione è stata diffusa all’inizio del 2022. Sia la seconda che la terza stagione sono state realizzate grazie al sostegno fornito, tra gli altri, dalla SUISA. Tutti gli episodi sono stati registrati in lingua inglese per non dare la priorità a una lingua nazionale e per poter rendere accessibile il podcast al maggior numero possibile di persone, anche a livello internazionale.

Bei der Vorstudie zu den Geschlechterverhältnissen in Schweizer Kulturbetriebenvom Zentrum Gender Studies der Universität Basel im Auftrag der Schweizer Kulturstiftung Pro Helvetia und des CSR wird klar: Die Schweizer Musikbranche wird von Männern* dominiert. Im Vergleich zu den anderen Sparten Performing Arts, Visuelle Künste, Musik und Literatur platziert sich die Musikbranche meist als Schlusslicht. Die Musik hat als einzige Sparte fast durchgängig Zahlen deutlich unter 40 %.

Even before the current pandemic, contemporary music existed in a state of crisis. Its structures and institutions struggle to support any minority, let alone artistic practices outside of a narrow Western European style, meaning fundamental change is inexorable if this field is to remain societally relevant. With this issue of OnCurating Journal, the curatorial collective GRiNM (Gender Relations in New Music) gathers texts based on its 2019 conference at the Zurich University of the Arts that explore practical and theoretical approaches to opening and diversifying the field. Our intention with this issue is to articulate these voices as central to curating music, and to call its outdated investment in a European monoculture into question. We hope that it serves in the eye of this current storm as the most urgent of demands for fundamental, immediate change.

We are happy to announce the Gender Relations in New Music (GRiNM) Network Conference 2019: Experiences with Gender and Diversity in New Music in cooperation with the Institute for Critical Theory at the Zurich University of the Arts. The conference will be held at the Zurich University of the Arts, Toni-Areal Campus in Zurich, Switzerlandfrom 14.11. – 16.11.19. With over 40 speakers and participants from all over Europe, we are confident the conference will be a major milestone in marking the importance of these issues in the European contemporary music community.

The GRINM Network Conference 2019 will bring together a variety of initiatives focusing on diversity and gender issues in contemporary music in Europe. In the course of our activism, we have seen both how such initiatives are crucial to the continued existence of the field, and how large-scale projects in schools, universities, music venues, and festivals are already underway. Despite this wealth of knowledge and experience, there has until now been little examination of the goals or results of these projects, something we now intend to change. The focus of our conference will thus be on bringing together people already working in this field to share their outcomes, experiences, and insights. Through keynotes, music, presentations, and most of all through discussion, our goal is to contribute to establishing a discourse around these issues across the contemporary music community.

We are happy to announce our three keynote speakers will be Anke Charton (University of Vienna), Susanne van Els (Royal Welsch Conservatory of Music and Drama/AEC Working Group on Learning and Teaching) together with Camilla Overgaard (Royal Academy of Music Aarhus), and Christina Scharff (King’s College London). A keynote will kick offeach day of the conference. On Thursday night, we have the distinct pleasure of a special concert featuring Stellan Velloce (DE) and Neo Hülcker (DE), followed by Fågelle a.k.aKlara Andersson (SE) in the university’s Mehrspur jazz club.

Rund zehn Personen aus dem Musikbusiness werden eine Musikerin* einladen, um gemeinsam die Stanser Musiktage zu besuchen. Die Eingeladenen erhalten an verschiedenen Stationen innerhalb des Festivals Inputs zu den Themen Inklusion, Diversität an Festivals und zu Sonart.

Der Business Teil erfolgt auf Einladung durch Helvetiarockt. Danach folgt ein gemeinsamer Konzertbesuch von Les Amazones d’Afrique.
